TISBUS has been operating for nearly nine years. It is a charity supported by the Wiltshire County Council with donations from some of the parishes served. It is a door-to-door minibus service with wheelchair accessible vehicles.
We serve approximately 22 villages in the area (covering approximately
400 sq miles). To use TISBUS it is necessary to become a Member
(£2 until 2010 per year). If you have a Concessionary Fare Card (bus pass) you may travel
on the weekly journeys to Salisbury and Shaftesbury free.
TISBUS is run by a Board of Trustees and a much valued Co-ordinator. One of the Trustees is the Transport Manager and several are also volunteer drivers. We have three paid drivers and six volunteers but are always
looking for more to share the load.
Over the years we have run
several very second-hand vehicles and because money was tight we had
to purchase what was available at the time of need. These were,
on occasions, not really suitable for our Clientele.
In 2007 we set about raising funds for a brand new purpose built
vehicle and in less than six months had raised sufficient money to
purchase two minibuses. We are so grateful to those charities
which have faith in us and were so generous in their support.
Having got these 'buses up and running, in the early summer of 2008 we again
set about fund raising to replace our oldest
'bus which is getting expensive to maintain.By February 2009 the funding is in place and we are at the exciting position of deciding on which type of minibus to choose.
