TISBOWLS

Home Page Tisbury Bowling Club is in the heart of the village in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside. It was started 28 years ago by a keen band of potential players who had been rolling up on a villagers tennis court.

After funding was obtained and the green laid a series of friendly matches was arranged. The Club went from strength to strength, eventually being accepted to play in the Salisbury and District League. The ladies felt they were missing out as they could only play in the friendly matches. As there has never been very many ladies, keen though they are, it was felt that joining a Ladies League was not possible so they therefore applied and were accepted to play in the Stan Westbrook Mixed Triples League. Tisbury's name is now on the winners trophy twice and three times on the runners up salver. However in 2007 the Ladies joined the County Bowling Association and are now eligible to enter all their competitions and leagues. However due to the few ladies in the Club it is still difficult to raise a team to play in afternoon leagues. We hope this situation will be remedied in future seasons.

It is hoped that 2011 will see an increase in members. Our annual subscription is £48 and match fees will remain at £1.50 for both home and away games for MTL and Friendly but increase to £2 per match for SDL games. The mileage rate will be kept under review because of the increasing cost of fuel. When it is the same people doing the driving, match after match, they must receive adequate coverage for their fuel costs.

We do not have the plush facilites of many of our league friends - no bar or snooker but a warm welcome, plenty of fruit squash, tea and coffee all help to make Tisbury Bowling Club a welcoming venue. Why not come and join us? Please contact the Hon Secretary for further information.
